16' Sailboats For Sale
Howdy folks, I'm relatively new to sailing, although I've taken some lessons, I've only been out on my new to me 1974 Daysailer II a handful of times. After spending much of the winter reading posts from the awesome owners forum, I've noticed capsizing this boat is a pretty common experience. Yet being able to simply right the boat after a capsize isn't very common. I know non-ballasts centerboard boats are all prone to capsizing, but these boats are bigger than your average sunfish and could be quite a handfull when it goes.
So here I am all new and excited about sailing and now I'm kinda scared of the boat and even more scared to bring the GF out and make her take a swim. Additionally, I was hoping this would be something we could include our little dog in so she doesn't have to stay home every weekend. Now I'm worried about her getting hurt during a capsize.
So tell me wise old salts of r/sailing, am I being overly concerned? Should I just make sure everyone has some life vests on and have a jolly good summer? or is this something I should genuinely have some well warranted fear of?
